Moving Help and Moving Services
The best people to ask for moving help are your friends. They're the most likely to do you the favor, it's practically written into the unwritten code of friendship...
But if they're not available the next best place is Craigslist.org. There you can post an add looking for the number of helpers you need, when, for how long, and how much you're willing to pay.
This can be much cheaper than hiring professional house movers and furniture movers. However remember that you're working with verbal contracts and no insurance so you may want to your move your precious and expensive items yourself before hand and just save things like furniture for the moving helper crew.
You may want to call your local moving company and see if you can rent some of the items you'll need such as packing blankets, straps, even trucks.
As far as going green, you can thrown in a healthy green meal for your crew to increase the sense of community, and make sure you're hiring lean green working machine rather than a sugar crashing fast food clogged machine.
By providing a healthy green lunch for your moving helpers, you're also saving time as they won't need to scatter for a lunch break!
Also, provide water, but use re-usable cups and a pitcher with ice rather than going out and buying a case of bottled water for them.
